Course Improvement Updates

 

Your Green Fees At Work

Los Amigos is currently planning and implementing considerable improvements to the course conditions as well as the attendant facilities and amenities.  Architect, Casey O’Callaghan has been retained to redesign each of the golf course elements described below. 

Our Golf Course Improvement Map, posted in the pro shop and below, identifies the location of the pending improvements.  Our efforts are intended to improve the experience for all of our patrons at Los Amigos.

Green Repair & Renovation

We recently completed extensive aerification of the greens at Los Amigos.  We are currently replacing considerable turf on most of the greens with an almost complete reconstruction of the green and related drainage on hole #9.  While this process is certainly disruptive to daily play in the short-term, it is critical for the long-term health of the greens and promoting high-quality turf growth.  We expect all of the greens except for #9 to return to normal playing conditions in mid-November.  Green #9 should be playable in early December.

Cart Path Installation

We are currently designing a network of concrete car paths that will be installed adjacent to all tees and greens and will extend the full length of all par 3s.  Los Amigos has engaged noted golf course architect, Casey O’Callahan, to design this project.   Construction is expected to commence in February 2013.

Bunker Renovation & Relocation

Casey O’Callahan is also developing a plan to renovate, reshape and/or relocate all the bunkers on the golf course.  Over the years, many of the bunkers have naturally shifted, crowned or flattened away from their original position.  Moreover, as the course and the foliage have matured, some of the bunkers are ineffective or out of play.  This project will commence in July 2013 when the daily temperature is most conducive to strong turf growth around the bunkers.

Redesign of Hole #9 

In conjunction with the bunker renovation project, hole #9 has been rebuilt and extended to a par 4 with three new bunkers protecting the green, a new tee complex and new slope.  Our customers have been receptive to and enjoy the challenge of this new resort-style green.

New Tee Boxes

New tee complexes will be installed at holes #11 and #12 and a new back tee will be added to hole #17.

Tree Trimming & Removal

While Los Amigos is fortunate to offer an abundance of foliage and tree-lined fairways, many of the trees have become overgrown throughout the years and impair the quality of the turf and integrity of intended site lines and playing corridors.  As such, we have commenced extensive trimming of more than 200 trees and the complete removal of more than 75 trees.  Of particular note, the Sycamore that impedes the approach into the #17 green will be trimmed and the trees along the right side near the end of the #13 fairway will be removed to make the second shot playable for shorter hitters.  This work is expected to be completed in January 2013.

Practice Facility Renovations

We are installing a new practice area which will be adjacent to the existing putting green between the #1 tee and the #9 green.  The practice area will have a new chipping green and practice bunker.  In addition, our grass driving range will be replanted and will have a quality hitting turf.  New balls and range mats are already available on the range.

Building & Amenity Renovations

After 35 years of neglect, the depreciating state of Los Amigos’ public areas called for extensive renovations to reflect the aesthetics of the 21st century.  The Los Amigos Pro Shop, Sales Office and lobby started mass renovations in late 2012 and as part of our extensive plans, we gutted all existing rooms from top to bottom in favor of new carpet, walls, wainscoting, lighting and furnishings.

In early 2013, our snack bar and banquet room completed renovations involving the removal and replacement of all flooring, walls, ceiling tiles and existing fixtures.  Our new snack bar is a clean modern space for our guests which includes brand new booths and new bar seating.  Our banquet room was completely refaced to include new wall sconces, wainscoting and mirrors, ideal for hosting a large number of guests.

Our lounge/bar is currently under construction as we work to bring our guests a more sophisticated area to enjoy.  We are also in the planning stage for multiple other upgrades, renovations and improvements to the bathrooms located adjacent to the pro shop and immediately outside the banquet room.  We expect the bathroom and bar upgrades to be completed in mid-2013.  We will post additional information regarding these improvements as our plans and designs are more firm.
